     Brigadier General Daniel P. Coffey was born in Chewelah, Washington in 1947. BG Coffey earned a Regular Army commission through ROTC, at Washington State University, where he was designated a Distinguished Military Graduate and earned his bachelor’s degree in Sociology. As a Second Lieutenant he completed the Army Medical Department Officer Basic Course, with subsequent attendance at the US Army Officer Rotary Wing Aviator Course at Fort Wolters, Texas and Fort Rucker, Alabama. In 1972 BG Coffey served as a Medical Evacuation Pilot and Aircraft Maintenance Officer in the 571st Medical Detachment in DaNang, Republic of South Vietnam. After Vietnam, BG Coffey had assignments with the 237th Medical Detachment (RA) in Fort Ord, CA and finished his active duty assignments as the S-4 for the 9th Medical Battalion in the 9th Infantry Division in 1976. In 1978 he completed the Yale University Physician Associate Program in New Haven, Connecticut, in 1989 he earned his Masters of Business Administration at Pacific Lutheran University, Tacoma, WA.

     BG Coffey’s military education includes the Army Medical Department Officer Basic and Advance Courses, the Aircraft Maintenance Officer/Maintenance Test Pilot Course, the Command and General Staff College, and the Army War College. BG Coffey’s military awards and decorations include the Senior Army Aviator Badge, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Air Medal with 2 device, the Army Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Vietnam Service Medal, and other awards.

     Prior to BG Coffey’s present assignment as the 66th Aviation Deputy Brigade Commander he held a variety of command and staff positions in the Washington Army National Guard, US Army Reserve and Regular Army. BG Coffey has commanded the 540th Aviation Group (Attack), 1-168th Aviation Battalion (Attack Helicopter), and 841st Air Ambulance Detachment. BG Coffey has served as the 66th Aviation Brigade Executive Officer, the Washington Army National Guard’s State Aviation Officer, the Plans, Operations, and Training Officer for the US Army Reserve's 340th General Hospital, and as the Battalion Logistics Officer for the 9th Medical Battalion, Fort Lewis, Washington.

     BG Coffey and his wife reside in Puyallup, Washington where they are the parents of four children as well as two grandchildren.  He works as a Physician’s Assistant for a Puget Sound medical firm, and is a Clinical Faculty member of the University of Washington School of Nursing.
