Brigadier General Bret D. Daugherty

Brigadier General Bret Daugherty assumed the duties as the Assistant Adjutant General –Army Element, and Commander of the Washington Army National Guard on June 7, 2009. As Commander, he is responsible for the manning, training and readiness of the Washington Army National Guard.

Brigadier General Bret Daugherty was born in Tacoma and grew up in Federal Way, Washington. He attended Seattle University where he was awarded an Army ROTC Scholarship. Upon graduating as a Distinguished Military Graduate in June of 1980, he was commissioned as an active duty Army Second Lieutenant. His active duty assignments include Platoon Leader in the 7/17th Air Cavalry Squadron at Fort Hood, and Assistant Professor of Military Science at Seattle University. In 1989 he left active duty and was assigned to the Washington Army National Guard. His previous assignments include command of the1-168 Aviation Battalion, Deputy Commander of the 66th Aviation Brigade, Deputy Commander of the 81st Brigade Combat Team (Rear), Commander of Task Force FORSCOM Border Security, Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence and Security, Commander of the 205th Training Regiment and Commander of the 66th Theater Aviation Command.
