As a Colonel, you may serve as a Brigade Commander or as a Directorate on the State Staff.
Military Schooling: You attend the War College, usually via correspondence course. The War College prepares students to assume strategic leadership responsibilities.
Assignment duties: Your assignment duties as a Colonel vary greatly depending on you assignment, you are not limited to your branch as a Directorate. As a Brigade Commander, you are in command of a Brigade of 3,000 to 5,000 Soldiers. You are responsible for the oversight of operations, logistics and personnel in the Brigade and you will work closely with your Brigade Command Sergeant Major, Battalion Commanders, and interact with your Brigade Staff and the State Staff.

G4, Washington Army National Guard
J4, Joint Forces Headquarters
